Awards-season chatter reaches Karachi, with the usual caveats
International shortlists are useful. They are not a strategy for a film industry that still needs local screens.

Karachi’s producers are watching the autumn festival circuit with a mixture of hope and fatigue. A sidebar selection helps a film travel. It does not automatically help it recoup.
The more useful conversation, several distributors said, is still about weekday occupancy and whether a mid-budget film can hold a screen past Friday.
